  • Not alot going on this quiet tuesday morning.  I did hear back from my sister and it seems my brother in law is still in intensive care.  Apparently only 20% of his heart is working right now.  He is on some medication and it was said that he will probably need a heart transplant in the future.  My sister discharged herself from the hospital last Saturday so she would be home for her birthday    The Dr's are still running tests on her since they don't seem to know what is wrong with her yet.  I guess I will get the news as it trickles in....

Later today I have a therapy appt.  I have been doing my exercises and stretches so I am hoping there is some improvement in my flexibility.  The therapist did tell me not to expect much until after I get the ok to start walking again.  Then I should see improvement quickly,  I hope he is right.

I called my boss yesterday.  I wanted to check in on whether or not she had gotten one of my bus stops changed.  Mostly she was just worried about whether I would be up to driving when school starts on the 27th.  I told her I can drive now, I just cant put weight on my ankle.  I also said by then I should be ok.  I will probably still be wearing the brace, and I may be moving slow getting on and off the bus, but I will be able to drive it.  I guess one of the other drivers will be having back surgery and off work the first few months of school so we are already behind in drivers again and the school year hasn't even started.  ANyway, back to the bus stop, she hasn't got that taken care of yet.  She plans on physically going to the stop and checking it out and making a decision.  If they change it, (which is what I am hoping for) the kids will get on and off on a flat section of highway on top of the hill.  It will be much safer I think...   So another wait and see thing.....

Sara is off at her Show Choir Clinic again today.  It runs all this week from 8am - 4pm...   Plus she wants to attend the dance team clinic next week and do the tryouts for that.  I am not too sure she is going to have the time or energy for both of them as well as school work.  But I already told her that if she cant keep her grades up the extracurricular stuff will stop.  Plus she wants to get a job next summer and I said that also depends on the grades she gets this year.  She is going into her sophomore year and will be starting Drivers Ed too....    Stay off the sidewalks is all I can say

Not much else in the way of news...   Hubby is coming home at lunchtime and taking me to therapy.  He is such a sweety    I told him I could take myself over there, but he wants to go with me.  I need to get a shower and get dressed and I will be ready...

The County Fair starts today.  Of course the kids want to go.  We always take baby at least one day so she can see everything and ride the rides.  I am not sure how it is going to work out this year since I cant walk.  I may be able to hobble on the crutches as long as I can sit when I need to.  Problem is there isn't always a place to sit.   I already have 2 fun cards for Alex and Sara to get it in free and watch the concerts, so at least they can go with their older sister.  If nothing else I can always send hubby and baby to the fair without me this time....

Well,  time to get moving.  Have a great day everyone

  • When we lived in Charlotte, we once lived in an apartment for a few years on a busy street. The girls were in elementary school, and it seemed that one year we would have a bus, and the next year, we wouldn't. It was right on the border for bus service (the next apartment over got bus service). On the years that we didn't have it, my neighbor and I would take turns bringing our kids to school. She'd take them in the mornings, and I'd go pick them up in the afternoons. We would never let them walk alone on that curvy, busy street. (A four lane highway). It was weird, because both of our families moved the same day, so the next year we would not be going to the school, but there were so many kids walking from that apartment complex, that it still worried me. I called the school bus number, and voiced my opinion. I told them that I walk with the small elementary kids, and how dangerous it is. I asked the guy if he would feel safe letting his younger elementary child walk on that busy street and he said yes. I thought he was an idiot!!! Ashley was just in K/1 grade. I think Tyler was in the 4th grade by the time we all moved. He was the oldest of them all.

Hope you are feeling better!!! Hugs, Tracy

  • RYC: I remember when we did have a bus one year (and remember this was gosh what, when we left the girls were going into 2nd and 4th grades and they are now 20 and 18!) and our bus was coming to a stop at our bus stop. Somebody hit it from the back, because the street curved, and people never slowed down for the curves, so the guy hit it. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and it was before kids at our bus stop could get on. If they are not going to slow down for a school bus, what makes anyone think that they would have time to stop if a little child suddenly went for something in the street??? SCARY!

  • But you are correct. When we lived in another section of town (this one was a little more affluent than the bus stop school), Sherri was in the 6th grade, and again, we lived off another busy street. She would walk home. Now, when she didn't have afterschool activities, there was a light that came on when school let out. However; if one had an afterschool activity, the light would be off by then. (it turned into a blinking light) It was very hard to cross the street, and cars didn't pay attention to kids wanting to cross the street. Our subdivision got together and had the light kept functional till about six o'clock. It would be green for cars, but if someone wanted to cross, they pushed a button, and it would cycle red for traffic, so that kids could cross.

Still makes me wonder tho... about what needs were taken more seriously, what with the affluencies of the neighborhoods/schools...

  • Just wanted to stop by and let you know I was thinkingabout you and hope all is getting better. :)   I'm still working on that design for Alex, sorry its taking so long. We've been busy and I wantto make sureit looks good. Take care!
