  • So what is new today???  Hmmmm…  not much, pretty much the same old, same old… Not a lot to blog about when you are stuck in bed.   Hubby was supposed to have the day off…  At about 7:50am the phone rings and it is one of his guys calling to say his wife had a heart attack and he couldn’t work today.  So hubby had to go in.  He still isn’t home.  As far as I know he may have to stay and close the store tonight.  No rest for the wicked     I was checking out some of my Xanga buddies blogs' today and ran across a neat map on my friend Mother Moonies site.  I followed the link and made my own map…  It’s an interesting site.  My map shows all the states that hubby and I have ridden our Goldwing thru.  Right now we have been thru about 21% of the United States…  It looks like we have a whole lot more riding we need to be doing   We are actually in the planning stages of a nice little riding vacation that will take us from one coast to the other.  There are so many places we want to see.  I guess I am a pansy though cuz I don’t want to take a tent and camp out.  The only camping I want to do is at the Holiday Inn    I like spending the day riding and then stopping for a nice dinner and a hot shower and clean bed    Hubby is going to make a small trailer to pull behind our bike.  He has an idea of what he wants and how to do it so it is just a matter of time before he gets it done…  He thinks it will be so much easier to carry our stuff in a trailer rather than the saddlebags of the bike and he is right.  Those saddlebags don’t carry near enough when you are going to be gone a week or so…

Looks like we are under another severe thunderstorm watch so the internet will probably be cutting in and out soon..  This nasty weather is suppose to be moving out by tomorrow and the heat and humidity is suppose to drop and be a nice weekend   It will be great to be able to open the windows again…

One question before I go…   Do any of you use the new Xanga themes?   If so do you like them?   Can you easily customize them??

Well, I better head out…   I hope everyone is having a great day

  • Mother Moonie always has the coolest stuff, doesn't she? Have you checked out her new site just for writing? I think it's called Murky Muffins.

I use the themes, as does my hubby, so check out our sites if you wanna see how they look. Yes, they're customizable; no, it's not terribly easy. I actually had an easier time with the layouts using HTML code because eventually I could figure out what line I needed to change to adjust something. But, I think they have a nice clean look to them; and they're kinda fun, so I'm giving them a chance for now. Some other Xangans that I know have been using them are in my sub list---baychic, MommaOnTheMountain, and CraftTeaLady for sure.

    Have a great day!

  • You coast to coast trip sounds like fun!  :sunny:  I want to do that someday, but in a car or motorhome.  I really do love road trips, especially when I'm not in a hurry to get somewhere and can stop and see a few sites along the way.  We used to tent camp quite a bit, but you do have to take a lot of gear.  I think I am also probably a hotel gal now, too, though.  I enjoy getting a good night's rest under a good air conditioner... :giggle:

I use the xanga themes, and I like them much better than the old style.  I took some time to play around with it to tweak them.  It's not hard, just different.  You can start experimenting and save your progress, without having to make it your active theme until you are ready to do so.  I like that feature a lot... being able to save different themes after you've tweaked them for later use.  I think most of them are better "eye candy" and easier for the reader to read, too.  I check about once a week to see what people have added, and there are already some good ones out there.  One thing I've found, though, is that they may only be designed for one certain layout... ex. one small left column and one larger blog column on the right.  If you try to change it to a three column layout, the third column may not be in the theme.  It can be tweaked to match, though, if you want to take the time to do that.

Hope you have a good day!

  • To answer your question, no I haven't used the new theme, just because I am not very computer saavy! lol

I was looking at your photos and map. OMGoodness, you are right, Baron looks a lot like Sarge!!! I sure miss him! You are an awesome scrapbooker... I was watching all of your slides.

My map is on all of the states I have been in. We've only ridden in Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. With the exception of *maybe* adding Alabama to the list later on this year, it doesn't look to change anytime soon.

Hope you get your cast tomorrow! Hugs, Tracy

  • RYC: It's pretty obvious that Harley Girl was abused before we got her last year. She's about 2 and a half years old now. She does not like loud noises either, she is terrified of my camera or anything you hold up close to your face (which makes us wonder if she's been shot at), We think she's been stabbed while pregnant. And once, Doug had some extension cords out, doing sme work around the house. When Harley saw those, she ran for dear life. She's coming around tho. I'd love to find out who owned her before we did, and punch him or her square in the mouth!!!

  • ryc:  On finding the cemeteries online, try first to just go to http://www.usgenweb.com, and then go to the state, then to the county you are looking for.  I'm finding that a good many of the cemeteries are already transcribed online, and that is how I was able to find the burial locations for several relatives in our tree.  Better watch out, though.  Once you get into this stuff, it's quite addictive!  It's easy to make a lot of progress in a relatively short amount of time, thanks to all the new resources on the internet.  If you need more info, I'll be glad to share some other resources I've found.  One other one is http://www.findagrave.com, but there are not as many locations there as at the US Gen Web project.  You just have to know a little bit about where to look there.

  • Eek...Im sorry to hear about your ankle...my fingers are crossed!  Hope all goes well!

  • RYC: about themes... Anything you can DO, you can UNDO, honey! And, if you're having to lie around and let your foot heal; you've got time to play around & learn a new skill. I want to learn how to MAKE themes... but I think I'd have to break an ankle to have time for that!
