  • I am free, free, free.....

well...  kinda :)     I saw the Dr yesterday afternoon and I was cleared to start putting weight on my foot.  It was pretty swollen by the time I got in to see him though and he wasn't real happy about that, but said some people swell more than others and when it does swell I need to put my foot up for at least 15 minutes or so.  Physical therapy is going to kick up to 3 times a week now and the Dr said I could start by putting weight on my foot, then move to walking with just one crutch, then to no crutches, but he wants me to walk in the ankle brace thing they had me wear after I got the cast off...

Image6  This is not fun   but at least I can move now.

Thursday Hubby and I took Miranda and our granddaughter, Domi, to the fair. We bought them each a $15 wristband to ride the rides and let them go   Of course Hubby was with them every step of the way....    This is what I did...

Image7 Can you tell which is me???   I look worse than the little old lady on the other end of the bench..   I had my hair all pulled back, man!  it was hot!  See my leg brace??  I spent most of the day with my foot propped up on that bench   I did attempt to hobble down to see the big cat show, but by the time I got there all the seats were taken and do you think anyone would offer a seat to a hot, sweaty woman on crutches????   heck no! So I stood there for a few minutes with hubby and the girls and I hobbled back to a bench I could sit on.

The little girlies had an absolute BLAST!

Image8 Image9 Image10 We figured that it cost us $30 for the both of them to ride for about 3 hours and at the prices the fair charges for rides ($3 a ride) they got somewhere around $100 worth of riding in    So they were happy and we were happy.

Sara got her sports physical done this morning so now as long as she stays on mama's good side she can go to the dance clinic on monday and tuesday and try out for the dance team on wednesday.   Not much else happening right now.   My ankle is swollen so I think I am going to have Miranda come in with me and crawl up in bed and watch a movie.   Ron is at work til about 9pm and the kids have all left for the fair so it is just her and I..

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend,  and Mother Moonie...   get some motorcycle riding in for me!

  • Sitting in my "BigGirl" Chair....

I am done with bed...  I am sitting in our computer room in my chair and feeling pretty good :)   I am still stretching my foot and when it hurts too much I prop it up on a chair.  I am enjoying once again using my keyboard and looking at my big 22" widescreen monitor instead of that little laptop.  I forgot how much I like my monitor

I am putting a small amount of weight on my foot, not too much though, and I am still using the crutches.  I am moving pretty slowly, but at least I am moving...

Hubby and Alex are outside working on the little Geo Metro we got last week.  Hubby got a new windshield for it from the junkyard and he and the boy are outside getting ready to put it in as well as putting it between 2 trees to try and pull the dents out a bit.  It looks like it was smacked in the front passenger side and also on the back bumper.  I actually think they have quite a few of the dents pulled out already.  I am just hoping they get the windshield in without breaking it.  We priced having a new one put in, it would cost $189 to buy the glass and another $100 for the glass place to install it.  Hubby got this windshield for $50 at the junkyard.  He had to replace 1 lifter, and he was able to soak the other lifter and clean it up, plus he put new spark plugs into it.  It will still need some new tires, but it will be ready to drive hopefully by friday when the boy has to go to school.

    Image1

My oldest daughter is here.  She is getting ready to drive over and pick Sara up from her Show Choir clinic.  Then I am sure they will be wanting to go to the fair shortly after that.  Hubby will still need some help getting that windshield in so they might not leave as soon as they are hoping.

Baby just came in to get the top cut off of her 2nd freezer pop.  I opened it and then told her no more for awhile.  She held up 3 fingers and said thats how many she is so she needs 3 freezer pops :)    Kinda hard to argue with 3 yr old logic :)     She is going to ride with her sister to get Sara, so that will slow her down a little bit,  at least til she gets back home

Well,  I need to get back to work.  I have a couple digital scrapbooking kits I need to get uploaded into the store of my scrapping site.  I need to get it done so I don't have to worry about doing it tomorrow.

    Have a great afternoon/evening everyone

  • Back from the Physical Terrorists.....

as my friend Shirlann would say    The therapist was happy cuz I had more flexibility in my ankle.  She said the exercises were working.  She also said once I get the ok to start putting weight on my ankle I should get better even faster.   So back to the exercises and then thursday morning I go back to therapy.

Ron and I are going to take Miranda and our oldest granddaughter to the fair on thursday.  We want her to see the fair and all the animals, and she loves to go on the rides, so that is something they will both enjoy.  I wont have the ok to walk, but I think if I take it slow and easy I will be ok.  I will just make sure I stop and sit when I need too.  I also figured that on a thursday during the day there shouldn't be nearly as many people around so we shouldn't have to fight the crowds.  It is supposed to be hot though,  back to hot and humid....

Alex and Sara left for the fair tonight with their older sister.  They are going to walk around and then see the concert tonight.  I cant remember who is playing tonight but Josh Turner is performing tomorrow night.  If I could handle the crowds I would go and take hubby cuz he likes listening to Josh Turner.

Baby has Tom and Jerry cartoons on....  It sure hasn't changed any.  Tom still manages to come out on the losing end of things :)    I don't think the cartoon has changed any since I was little and used to watch it.

Ok,  I hear the motorcycle so hubby is home....    I think he is bringing dinner :)     Have a great night everyone

  • Not alot going on this quiet tuesday morning.  I did hear back from my sister and it seems my brother in law is still in intensive care.  Apparently only 20% of his heart is working right now.  He is on some medication and it was said that he will probably need a heart transplant in the future.  My sister discharged herself from the hospital last Saturday so she would be home for her birthday    The Dr's are still running tests on her since they don't seem to know what is wrong with her yet.  I guess I will get the news as it trickles in....

Later today I have a therapy appt.  I have been doing my exercises and stretches so I am hoping there is some improvement in my flexibility.  The therapist did tell me not to expect much until after I get the ok to start walking again.  Then I should see improvement quickly,  I hope he is right.

I called my boss yesterday.  I wanted to check in on whether or not she had gotten one of my bus stops changed.  Mostly she was just worried about whether I would be up to driving when school starts on the 27th.  I told her I can drive now, I just cant put weight on my ankle.  I also said by then I should be ok.  I will probably still be wearing the brace, and I may be moving slow getting on and off the bus, but I will be able to drive it.  I guess one of the other drivers will be having back surgery and off work the first few months of school so we are already behind in drivers again and the school year hasn't even started.  ANyway, back to the bus stop, she hasn't got that taken care of yet.  She plans on physically going to the stop and checking it out and making a decision.  If they change it, (which is what I am hoping for) the kids will get on and off on a flat section of highway on top of the hill.  It will be much safer I think...   So another wait and see thing.....

Sara is off at her Show Choir Clinic again today.  It runs all this week from 8am - 4pm...   Plus she wants to attend the dance team clinic next week and do the tryouts for that.  I am not too sure she is going to have the time or energy for both of them as well as school work.  But I already told her that if she cant keep her grades up the extracurricular stuff will stop.  Plus she wants to get a job next summer and I said that also depends on the grades she gets this year.  She is going into her sophomore year and will be starting Drivers Ed too....    Stay off the sidewalks is all I can say

Not much else in the way of news...   Hubby is coming home at lunchtime and taking me to therapy.  He is such a sweety    I told him I could take myself over there, but he wants to go with me.  I need to get a shower and get dressed and I will be ready...

The County Fair starts today.  Of course the kids want to go.  We always take baby at least one day so she can see everything and ride the rides.  I am not sure how it is going to work out this year since I cant walk.  I may be able to hobble on the crutches as long as I can sit when I need to.  Problem is there isn't always a place to sit.   I already have 2 fun cards for Alex and Sara to get it in free and watch the concerts, so at least they can go with their older sister.  If nothing else I can always send hubby and baby to the fair without me this time....

Well,  time to get moving.  Have a great day everyone

  • Come on Friday!!

That's when I see the Dr. next.  I am hoping he allows me to start putting weight on my ankle.  Of course once that happens my Physical Therapy sessions will jump to 3 times a week, but I am tired of not being mobile.  PT on Thursday wasn't too bad.  The therapist stretched my foot and then I had to do some work on a piece of wood that you shift forwards and backwards with your foot flat on it.  That was hard but I did it..   The major work will come when the Dr releases me.  I am still doing my exercises at home so hopefully that is helping.

We finally replaced our old Ford Escort that the frame broke on a few months ago.  We found a little 1996 Geo Metro (white)  for $300.  Definitely a fixer upper so it's a good thing I have a hubby that knows cars.  Alex starts back to school next friday (his senior year) so we really needed to get something that he could take to school.  I am hoping this car will be real good on gas since he will be putting around 60 miles a day on it.

Hubby took me to WalMart last night...  my first shopping trip in over a month.  I got myself in the store and then I drove around on one of those motorized cars they have.  It wasn't fun     No one pays any attention to you, they are all like rats scurrying here and there, hurrying to get in front of you rather than giving you time to move.  It definitely made me rethink my behavior around any type of disadvantaged or handicapped person.  I am always really careful of the elderly and try to assist them in any way possible, but I am trying to think if I have been one of those people so wrapped up in my own stuff that I hurry right over top of people who really need a little more consideration.   Also,  you can NOT reach anything off the upper shelves from those little cars,   am so glad that for me this is only temporary....  And I will be sure when I am mobile again that I pay extra attention to the people that need it...

Things are quiet here right now.  I was able to talk Alex into changing the sheets on my bed.  Sara is doing the laundry.  Alex just grilled some hamburgers for lunch and baby is watching a movie.  The perfect time for me to catch up with all my Xanga friends...

I got a phone call friday night from one of my sisters.  My brother in law and my other sister (not married to each other) are both in different hospitals with some heart problems of some type.  I guess my BIL is in intensive care right now,  the upper part of his heart isn't working so it isn't pumping and his blood is clotting.  I am not sure what they will do about that.   As far as my sister goes I am not too sure if she is still in the hospital or not.  She is a year younger than me, actually her birthday is today.  We got into a squabble a few years ago when I thought she was being childish and told her so.  She flicked her wrist at me in a dismissing motion and I lost my temper.  I grabbed her shirt lapels to make her look at me and she called the cops saying I assaulted her.  I waited for them to come out and they told me that even though I hadn't touched her skin it could be qualified as assault.  I went home and haven't spoken to her since.  I am beyond all that, but it seems she isn't.  So I told my other sister to keep me informed, if she wants me to come all they need to do is call me.  Otherwise I will just check on her thru one of my other sisters.   I haven't received an update yet so I am hoping that is good news...

Hubby is at work..   He gets off in about 4 hours...

I got a paper in the mail the other day.  It was for our back to school bus meeting     Already.....   sigh.....   where did my summer go?????   Oh yeah....   I spent it in bed         enjoy your Sunday everyone

  • I am sore....  sore and tired...   The exercises the PT gave me to do are kicking my butt.  My poor ankle is hurting so I am going to cut this short.  Physical therapy 9am tomorrow....    Wish me luck....   have a good night everyone

  • I am sore.... Sore and tired. I went in today for my first physical therapy appt. I guess I got off lucky, but I don't feel like it. My therapist gave me a sheet with 5 different exercises on it to do. I am supposed to do 1 set of 10 of each of these 3 times a day. It doesn't sound like much, but tell that to my poor stiff ankle. I am supposed to pump my ankle back and forth and then try to stretch it as far up as I can, write the alphabet with my big toe, rotate my ankle in circles, and swing my ankle back and forth, then use a towel across the bottom of my arch to pull my ankle as far forward as possible. After I went thru all of these she hooked the machine up that delivers electrical shock pulses to my foot and ankle and wrapped me in an ice pack. Now I am hurting. I took 1500 mg of Tylenol after I got home. I take Nabumetone (Relafen) morning and night for the Rheumatoid so I cant take any extra ibuprofen.. Tylenol or pain medication is about all I can take so I tried the Tylenol. I do have a 12" ice pack that hubby picked up for me, it is in the freezer getting chilled right now. The therapist has me on the schedule for twice a week until the Dr okays me putting weight on my ankle. Then I will kick it up to therapy 3 times a week. I go back on Thursday then I am good til the Tuesday after.

On a brighter note, Miranda's Sunflowers are blooming   She is so happy. Her and daddy planted them 2 months ago. She went out and watered and watched over them. Now they are over 6ft tall and blooming    I love how excited her face gets when she talks about them...

I swear I need a whip... Why is it that the kids cant keep their chores done? I have an answer, it is because I am not out there running roughshod over them if they don't get them done. It takes Sara all day long to get a couple loads of laundry done, forget getting the trash taken out. She doesn't even see it til it is falling out of the can and someone else mentions it. Alex cant seem to keep the dishes done. I am getting so tired of it. I need to get my ankle back in shape just so things get done around here...

Hubby stopped by the grocery store again tonight.... $73 later he comes home. I really appreciate him doing the shopping but I have come to the conclusion that I watch prices way more than he does. I love him to death but I sure don't like the amount of money he spends.... Oh well.... If he didn't stop, we wouldn't eat since I am not on the mobile list...

Time for me to cut this off. I am tired and sore and going to attempt to relax and watch a movie...  I hope everyone is having a good night

  • Shhhh.....

Don't Tell...   I am taking a quick break from my forum duties at The Scrapping Garden.   I have some store kits to get moved. I just finished uploading some other kits and getting them ready to be enabled tomorrow for our bi weekly advertised sales.  Then I need to finish going thru the forum and prune any posts that are old etc.  It seems like I always have plenty to do...  If you haven't checked the site out yet you should do it.  We hold challenges, contests, there is a chatting forum and we also hold chat/crops where everyone gets together and chats as well as gets freebies for making LO's.  This all goes along with the digiscrapping I do.  I am not a paper scrapbooker, but I really enjoy digital scrapbooking. We are also kicking the idea around of starting a Kids Club.  A place where the kids of our members could come and learn to digitally scrapbook too..   Complete with tutorials, classes, childrens' kits, etc.  This hasn't gone beyond the discussing phase yet, but could become a reality soon :)

Miranda just got a pkg in the mail from her Grandma in Ohio.  She sent a pretty little jeans outfit, a cute little yellow shirt with jean capris.  They are in the washing machine getting rinsed out right now.  She also sent 3 pretty sets of bath towels.  I think a "thank you" phone call is on order a little later tonight :)

Hubby came home just long enough to get a couple cheddarwurst sausage sandwiches for lunch and a diet Coke and he was gone again.  He shouldn't have to work late tonight so he ought to be home around 6:30pm.  Sara made me a couple of tuna salad sandwiches and now baby is laying here in bed with me watching the first Jurasic Park movie.

Alex is outside mowing the grass and trying to get some weed eating done, that seems to be a never ending job.  Sara emptied the baby's little pool and refilled it, I forgot to ask if she had watered my plants.  I better do that or all my herbs will be dead before I am back up and moving easily.

Now I need to get back to work, if I keep at it I should be done soon...  Catch ya later :)

  • Quiet, mellow, morning :)

The house is quiet.  The birds are chirping, a cool breeze is blowing and I am laying here exercising my ankle.  Nothing major, just gentle stretching.  It is still sore, but I don't think it feels as tight as it did the day they took the cast off.  Little by little it will improve.  I should be much better by the end of August when I have to start driving the schoolbus again.

Hubby had to work again today.  The store closes at 6pm tonight so he wont have to stay real late.  Alex just took the dogs outside to run around for awhile and he made me a cup of coffee   He is such a good kid.  (shhhhh  next I am going to see if I can get him to rub my foot)    Miranda is still sleeping.  The poor little thing.  Some mosquitos must have gotten in the house because she woke up yesterday morning and her arm was full of mosquito bites.  I know there was a couple of them buzzing around in here last night and hubby got them before they bit us.  I really dislike mosquitos, and I know Miranda doesn't like them.

Sara went with her sister to a picnic yesterday.  Then they both went to a slumber party for Catie's fiancee's sister.  Abby is somewhere around 13.  I guess they were going to sleep outside in a tent.  Sara will be home in a few hours all brimming with chatty talk.

Tomorrow Catie is picking Sara and Miranda up and they are going to get fitted for their dresses for Catie's wedding.  Sara is going to be a bridesmaid and sing at the wedding and Miranda is going to be a flower girl.  I am quickly going into debt over all these wedding clothes.  I already had to pay for tuxes for hubby and Alex.  Now the dresses, and I still haven't gotten anything for myself to wear!  At least I wont be wearing the cast to the wedding....    (thats a bright spot)

I worked on a new Xanga theme. What do you think of this page?   And also,  how do you get rid of the msg that says this content isn't allowed on this page?  Do I need to go to the old look and feel and dump everything I have added there?  And also when I log on it goes to the old page,  is there a way to stop that from happening?   So many questions!

    Have a wonderful Sunday everyone

  • Miranda is sitting beside me "reading" one of the earlier Harry Potter books.  Of course at only 3 yrs old she isn't reading much, but she is turning the pages and using her finger to follow the sentences..  I went thru some of the pictures that Son Alex took for me yesterday afternoon after I got back from the Dr. office, I will post a few of them.  They don't show much, just the incisions and some of the swelling and bruising I still have.  Alex ran his fingers gently down the outside of my ankle and he swears he can feel screw heads.  I don't know if he really can or not cuz I haven't tried it.

Image2 My bright pink cast with the bandaid that Miranda got me to make it feel better.

    Image3

    Some swelling and bruising still.

    Image4

This is the incision where the plate is. It's about 8" long and there are screws all up the incision holding the plate to my ankle bone.

    Image5

This is the right side of my ankle.  There are 2 screws on this side and the incision is about 4" long.  I am just happy I don't have an ankle tattoo.  I sure wouldn't have been happy to have something like that messed up...

I got up early this morning before hubby went into work and he helped me get into the shower...  Heaven!  I sat in there and just let the hot water run down my body and down my leg.  It felt so good!   You forget how nice those little things can be til you cant do them for awhile.  Now I am good for another day   Hubby has to close the store tonight, plus he doesn't get a lunch.  Poor guy!  He can thank his boss the district manager for that since the district manager is the one that decided hours needed to be cut.  Whenever that happens hubby, as the store manager, has to do the extra hours.  The guy never gets a break     So he left at 8:30am today and should get home around 9pm tonight.  He'll be one tired guy...

Not much else in the way of new stuff from here.  Have a great Saturday!!
